Motivation Board

My friend Johanna is leading the "Mindee & Valencia Ironman Support Crew", and she is up to some pretty amazing things...

A month ago she delivered the Motivation Board to my desk at work. It works just like a countdown. Every square has a number on it, representing the number of days remaining until Ironman. When that day arrives (ie, 30 days to go), I flip over the square and read an inspirational/motivational quote from one of my friends. Johanna is so creative & talented (and thoughtful!) - the board just blew me away. And the fact that so many people took the time to write something for me to think about on my way to the big event...well, I never get emotional at work but this time it was hard to hold back the waterworks.

I kept meaning to post a picture of it, but time slipped by. So, now I have 2 pictures - the first is one I took at the beginning of the month...

I really am so blessed to have such good friends in my life. Johanna and her husband Brian have spent hours on their bikes training with us with summer. She has run alongside Valencia on training runs. And now they are devoting so much of their time and energy to make this day as wonderful as it can be for us. I appreciate their friendship more than they know, and I hope I will get a chance someday to show as much support to them as they have to me.
A lot of my friends have been plotting out where/when they will be spectating & cheering this weekend, and that makes me feel so excited. There will be lots of friendly faces out there on the course, and I can't think of a better foundation for my Ironman day. Weather-wise I'm more concerned about it raining or being chilly for them than for me...because I would hate for them to have to stand in the rain and wait for me to come by! I hope they have a great day, and who knows? Last year as a volunteer on the course I got bitten by the Ironman bug. Will one of them be next?
